As an early childhood educator, I wonder what brought me, other than chance, to this field. As a business woman, and one who doesn't take time to play, I am a really poor candidate. In retrospect, I guess it's my caring nature that brought me here. I have always taken wounded and broken souls under my wing (adults and children). Besides that, I have spent many years nurturing children. I had three foster children, three step children, and six children of my own. Even with my children all grown, I still have rooms open to those who need a home.
Through my many years of trying to figure out how to get this parenting thing right, I have learned a thing or two, which I try to share with others by teaching parenting classes.
My office work at a daycare center makes me a prime candidate for working with children who need to be separated from their classmates. I have the time to work one-on-one and discover what inner goals the children have that cause them to act out. I try to give them alternate and more effective ways to accomplish those goals.
I guess I've come to where I am, not by chance, but by some underlying, inborn drive.
