What happened:
Jackson sat down to play with a truck. Immediately, Ally came and lay down beside him.
Jackson handed her a little gas pump to invite her to play along.
They said very little but they played well together. They moved the pieces around the pump house and figured out how everything on it works.
Opportunities and Possibilities:
We will put out more cars and trucks to be used in the pump house. We will also build villages and roads and make the pump house a main gas station in the town. We will expand it further by getting books about pump houses.
What it means:
Jackson is choosing activities that interest him, and he is willing to invite someone else in to share his discoveries. He is intrigued by all the parts of the pump house. Using trial and error he is able to use them all properly. Free based play helps Jackson discover something he really enjoys playing with, and he is developing social skills at the same time.
Dear Family,
Today Jackson had a sweet moment where he learned from play and made a new friend. Is he always so willing to invite others into his world?
