Materials in Carry Home Bag:
2 Books:
Cookie by Lisa Woomer- This is a fun book for children 3-7 years old and full of pictures. Your children will enjoy learning healthy eating habits with Cookie and learn the pitfalls of a poor diet. Toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy looking at the pictures; older kids can read it on their own or with you. They will learn what happens when you eat the same thing, all the time.
Super Snacks - Seasonal Sugarless Options by Jean Warren- Is a powerful book that helps form healthier eating habits and gives your children simple recipes that they can make and enjoy.
Snack Journal
“What to do”/“What kids learn” worksheet with dry erase marker
Small feedback notebook
Please check mark all items to make sure they are returned to the school.
WHAT TO DO:
Read the “Cookie” Book with your child.
Talk about eating healthy and what that means.
Ask your child questions to make sure they understand what it means to eat healthy. Offer suggestions like do you think carrots or jelly beans are better? Why?
Have your child write a list of their favorite snacks. Next to their favorite unhealthy snacks write a list of options they may like.
Look through the Super Snack book with your child. Let them pick out things that you can make together.
Make a list of healthy snacks to choose from that they can have when they want to snack. Keep those things on hand instead of junk food.
Keep track of your child’s healthy eating for 5 days. Ask how they feel about their choices.
WHAT KIDS LEARN:
Using fun and interesting books for children can help children form healthier eating habits. Parents and teachers can encourage children to eat healthy by telling them stories and doing activities that demonstrate healthy eating habits.
The children will learn to make better snack choices.
The book “Cookie” will help your children see what happens when we eat the same foods over and over. When Cookie makes better choices she is much healthier.
Making healthier snacks can help your children see how tasty healthy snacks can be.
Keeping healthy snacks on hand can help children with their weight and help them make better choices.
Eliminating sugar from your children’s diets can help them have more energy for more physical activity.
